Sudan celebrates Seal of Prophets (pbuh&hp)’s birth anniversary By: Mohamed Ali KHARTOUM, Sudan: In Sudan celebrations of Milad An-Nabi (pbuh &hp) starts nearly one week in advance, where open tents are erected on vast areas showcasing different sweets delicacies, known as 'halawat el-Milad An-Nabi' and made of sugar, flour and water studded with chick-peas, wholenuts, and peanuts. Muslims form congregations to extol the virtues of the Prophet (pbuh &hp) and glorify Allah through him. Islamic scholars and preachers, organise several lectures and symposia about the life of the Prophet (pbuh &hp) and his mission to spread Islam. However, the night of Prophet (pbuh&hp)’s birth anniversary is the big night that witnesses the climax of festivities as dervishes wearing double folded skirts making spiral shapes out of its many-colours spin while indulging in (Madeeh) or lyrical poems enrolling the Prophet (pbuh &hp)’s refined manners and sublime statute. Nearly most if not all families make sure that they go to Milad An-Nabi tents during the big night to buy sweets and distribute it among their relatives and neighbors. END |
