Eid festival observation and festivities By: Khadija Chinese
MOSCOW, Russia: The auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated on Sunday, November 14, in most parts of the world with religious respect and fervor. Millions of devotees dressed in their finest threads thronged to thousands of Eid congregations held at mosques, husseiniyaat, imam-baras, Islamic centers and open places in different cities and towns. They hugged each other after the Eid prayer saying ‘Eid Mubarak’ to each other.
Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and beginning of Shewwal, boosts harmony among Muslims throughout the world. In Iraq, hundreds of thousands of devotees swarmed in the holy city of Najaf from across Iraq to celebrate the Eid holiday. Grand and spiritual Eid congregation was held at the holy shrine of the Master of Believers El-Emam Ali ibn-e-Abi Talib (peace be on him) in Holy Najaf. In the holy city of Karbala, which hosts the holy shrines of El-Emam El-Hussein (peace be on him) and his brother Hazret El-Abbas (peace be on him), flocks of worshippers gathered to offer Eid prayer at the shrines.
Iranian nation celebrated the auspicious occasion beginning the day with Eid prayers in all parts of the country as well as at the holy shrines of Hazret Emam Reza (as) and Hazret Sayidah Fatimah El-Masoumeh (as) in the holy cities of Mash’had and Qom.
The Supreme leader of Iran Ayatullah Ali Khamenei led Eid prayer in Mosalla-e-Ayatollah Roohullah Khomeini (late) in the capital city of Tehran. Addressing the worshippers, he hailed the nation for showing a strong presence in Qods day rallies, and recalled the atrocities of the Zionist regime against the Palestinians and the suppression of the Iraqis by US troops. He further recalled promoting unity and vigilance.
Other countries where Sunday was Eid-ul-Fitr include Russia, India, Pakistan, China, Kenya, United States, Sweden, Indonesia, Albania, Ivory Coast, Malaysia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Algeria, Morocco, Turkistan and most of the European countries.
Marking the occasion, media aired and published special programs and features, unique dishes were cooked at hotels, restaurants and homes, gifts and felicitations were extended, while graves of loved ones were visited and grand feasts and parties were arranged. END |
