Human rights situation in Africa deplored By: Mohamed Ali DAKAR, Senegal: The International Human Rights League (FIDH) head Sidiki Kaba has deplored the human rights situation in Africa. Kaba was speaking at the inauguration of the 36th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples` Rights (ACHPR) on Tuesday. He said human rights on the continent were on a low ebb, notably in Darfur (Sudan) and Cote d`Ivoire. ”We demand that the African Commission on Human and Peoples` Rights urgently address the crisis in Cote d`Ivoire, where thousands have been displaced,” he said. About Mauritania, he said the country “constantly violates human rights, with the existence of disguised slavery, various abuses, oppression of the media.” END |
