Marja’iyah stresses on holding free and fair elections By: Ismail Zabeeh HOLY CITY OF NAJAF, Iraq: Ayatullah Sayyed Muhammad Saeed Al-Hakim said Iraq’s upcoming elections are crucial concerning the Iraqi people, because it takes place for the first time in the nations’ contemporary history. Ayatullah Saeed Al-Hakim is one of the four grand Marajay of Holy City of Najaf. Addressing a press conference, Ayatullah Al-Hakim’s spokesman Muhammad Hussain Al-Hakim said that if there is a project for the religious authority (Marja’iyah) for the elections, it would be that there should be fair national elections which form a sovereign government and real independence. He said the objective of Marja’iyah is unification of national ranks, rationale of efficiency and national will.
In reference to election law, the spokesman said there are merits and demerits in it, and there is no election law which is complete in meaning. He said the nation can get her rights and freedom from the current law despite its demerits. Also, Ayatullah Sayyed Ali As-Sistani stressed on holding elections on scheduled time that is January 2005 and that it must be free and fair, said President of the Interim Iraqi National Council Fouad Masom at the end of a meeting with the Ayatullah in Holy Najaf on Sunday.
