Teaching of Islam in British schools supported By: Nabil Raza LONDON, Britain: A new drive to teach British schoolchildren about the true meaning of Islam is set to be launched. Education Secretary Charles Clarke has backed the move, organized by the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB). He said it was vital to creating “understanding” between different cultures. Resource packs prepared for schools include books, videos and CDs which the Organizers hope will help overcome “barriers” to teaching Islam in schools and how non-Muslims understand the faith. Mr Clarke said the project deserved support. “It is only through understanding that this country can move forward as a true multi-faith and multicultural society,” he said. “We must ensure children grow up with a better understanding of their friends and neighbors,” Charles Clarke said. “The Muslim Council of Britain's initiative, books for schools, brings us much closer towards that goal.” END |
