Ramadan abolishes social and moral vices, Ayat Shirazi

HOLY CITY OF QOM, Iran: Ayatollah Nasir Makarem Shirazi said that upon the rise of crescent of the auspicious month of Ramadan, the breeze of felicity blows, and a noticeable wave of reformation is observed in the life of Moslems all around the world.

On one hand, the educational programs (self-correction, struggle with sensual desire and Satanic temptations, and strengthening the bases of sovereignty of intellect over the men), begin thanks to the fasting in this month. On the other hand, other programs for teaching the way of a better and cleaner life, are started thanks to the recitation of Holy Quran, and invocation of God.

Actually, if all Moslems value this blessed month duly, and appreciate this worthy opportunity, and benefit from the Islamic training and educational programs for one month, in addition to the promotion of knowledge and spirituality, many of social and moral vices, and even family disputes will be eliminated. The spirit of solidarity, friendship, help to the needy and deprived will be revived, and an environment full of purity and kindness is established in this month of mercy and blessing.

Of course, when fasting, we shall not content ourselves with abstinence from eating, drinking, and other sensual pleasures. Rather, we shall block our eye and ear to the forbidden things, and clear the face of our heart from the remembrance of anything save God, to let the divine lights to illuminate the angles of our soul.

In the same way, when reciting Quran, we shall not content with reading the words. Rather, we shall reflect and think about the Quranic verses as the comprehensive instruction for life, and observe it precisely in our life.

The exact statistics show that there is a considerable decrease in the volume of social vices, and the number of crime cases. This is an obvious evidence for what has been stated in the Islamic traditions: Satans are chained in this month. (because sensual desire is the means of their penetration, which is controlled in this month)

I greet all my dear brothers and sisters on the beginning of this month, and pray God for acceptance of worships of all of us.
