Israel participates in Nouakchott seminar on Islam By: Mohamed Ali NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania: A seminar in Nouakchott attended by representatives for the Parliamentary society committee of the NATO and the “Mediterranean Dialogue” that includes Israel dedicated its discussions on Monday to “Islam and democracy”. The three-day conference (Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 17-19) included participants from nine countries from the Mediterranean special group, the NATO parliamentary society committee and representatives for five countries of the “Mediterranean Dialogue”. Hamdan Weld Taha, the Mauritanian expert in Islamic affairs, and Muwala Saljaq, the Turkish woman expert in the Shariah Islamic jurisprudence, were the main speakers. Democracy is in the “essence of Islam” and the “bad behaviors which are not complying by certain Muslims should not affect this image,” the participants stressed. END |
