Britain: Services of Ayatullah Hakim lauded

LONDON, Britain: British capital London witnessed first commemoration ceremony in connection with the martyrdom anniversary of late Ayatullah Syed Muhammad Baqer Al-Hakim.

Commissioned by a joint venture conducted by the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq and London Islamic Centre, representatives from Muslim groups, Iraqi parties and a number of UK-based Iraq residents assembled to pay respect to the martyred cleric whose thought and beliefs have influenced many people in the region.

Addressing the gathering, speakers focused on the heavy burdens laid on the shoulders of Muslim community and reviewed the latest developments in Iraq.

Ayatullah Baqer Al-Hakim, head of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), was martyred outside the holy shrine of Hazrat Imam Ali (a.s.) in the holy city of Najaf, Iraq, on 29 August, 2003.
