Ayatullah Al-Hakim memorial day observed in Holy Najaf

HOLY CITY OF NAJAF, Iraq: First martyrdom anniversary of Ayatullah Sayyed Muhammad Baqer Al-Hakim, chairman Supreme Council of Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) and son of grand marje of Shiia world Ayatullah Al-Uzma Sayyed Mohsin Al-Hakim (late), was observed in the holy city of Najaf.

Tens of thousands of devotees of martyr Ayatullah Baqer Al-Hakim from across the country besides religious, political and social personalities attended the ceremony held near Ayatullah’s shrine in the holy city of Najaf on Thursday 23 September.

Ayatullah Baqer Al-Hakim along with dozens of worshippers was martyred last year in August in a bomb blast outside the holy Shrine of Amir-ul Mo’minin Al-Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be on him) in the holy city of Najaf.

Addressing the ceremony, Sayyed Abdul Aziz Al-Hakim, Ayatullah Baqer Al-Hakim’s younger brother and present chairman of the SCIRI, hailed the initiatives taken by Ayatullah Sayyed Ali As-Sistani saying “It is obligatory for us to respect the opinions of Marjaiyah Al-Ulya (top religious authority) who saved Iraq and Holy Najaf from the ordeal results of which were not known save by Allah.”

Al-Hakim called for reconsideration of election laws that the occupation authority designed before the transfer of sovereignty. He demanded elections in time saying this would contribute greatly in the stability of Iraq. He urged all sides to participate in the elections.

Al-Hakim urged Iraqi nation to elect their representatives very carefully and asked for their cooperation with the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq and Badr organization because these contributed in ousting despot Saddam regime. He promised the nation to keep treading on the path of late Ayatullah Baqer Al-Hakim.

Ayatullah Baqer Al-Hakim (late)’s elder son Sayyed Sadeq Al-Hakim also delivered an effective speech on the occasion besides other speakers.
