Iran, Supreme Shia Council leaders talks focus on Lebanon

TEHRAN, Iran: Visiting Sheikh Abdel Amir Qabalan,
deputy head of Lebanon's Supreme Shia Council, which is
the highest religious authority for Lebanon's Shias, met
with Iranian President Mohammad Khatami in Tehran on
Wednesday.
During the meeting, Khatami expressed his concern over
Lebanon situation and said unity among all Lebanese
factions particularly among Shias is necessary for peace
and stability. In this regard, he hailed the role of
Supreme Shia Council.
Pointing out threats to Lebanon, Sheikh Qabalan said enemy
is trying to achieve its targets by creating rift among
Muslims. He discussed with Khatami situation prevailing in
Lebanon after the killing of former Lebanese Prime
Minister Rafique Al-Hariri and acquainted him with the
efforts of Supreme Shia Council for unity and harmony in
the ranks of Muslims to thwart conspiracies of enemies.
