Ayat Baqir Al-Hakim remembered, paid tributes

BAGHDAD, Iraq: Ayatullah Sayyed Muhammad Baqir Al-Hakim, late son of late Grand Marje of Shia World Sayyed Mohsin At-Tabatabai Al-Hakim, was honored by holding memorial ceremonies in Iraq.

Ayatullah Baqir Al-Hakim, Chairman Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), was martyred in a car bomb outside the holy shrine of Amir-ol Mo’mineen Al-Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (p) in the holy city of Najaf two years back which also left more than 80 other worshippers martyred.

A memorial service to mark the occasion was held on Sunday at the residence of Sayyed Abdul Aziz Al-Hakim, late Hakim’s brother who currently heads the SCIRI, in Al-Jadriyah, Baghdad.

Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Assistant to Talabani, Adel Abdel-Mehdi, Vice-President Iraqi National Council Hussein Shahrestani, members of National Council, diplomats and foreign representatives attended the service.

The Iraqi government announced to name the day of martyrdom of Ayatullah Baqir Al-Hakim as ‘Marty Day’.
