Malmo rally protests against insult to Marja’iyah

By: Nurruddin Majidi

MALMO, Sweden: In chilly frosty cold, Iraqis living in different parts of Sweden took to streets of Malmo to protest against a program defamatory to Holy Najaf Marja’iyah aired on Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television.

Holding anti-channel banners, Iraqi flags and pictures of Ayatullah Sayyid Ali Al-Husseini As-Sistani, the protestors voiced full solidarity with the Marja’iyah.

In a debate on Al-Jazeera, the London-based Iraqi writer Fadel Al Rubaye said Shia religious leaders had ”favored the entry of American troops in Iraq” and had urged Iraqis not to resist the occupation.

Rubaye also said that clerics such as Ayatullah As-Sistani should keep out of politics and return to their mosques.

Sheikh Abo As-Sadoq Al-Basari and Ms Samia An-Nuri addressed the protest gathering in English and Swedish languages respectively. In the end of the demonstration, protest statement was read which condemned al-Jazeera and demanded its trial in front of world courts.
