Kuwait Clerics Society demands official holiday on Ashura Day

By: Sultan Ahmed

KUWAIT CITY: Head of the Shia Clerics Society in Kuwait Sayyed Muhammad Baqer Al-Mohri has demanded from the government implementation of suggestion of official holiday on Ashura Day posed by Parliament member Salih Ashur upon which national council agreed.

Sayyed Al-Mohri said remembrance of Hussein is not onlycommemoration of a great man, but commemoration of humanity, commemoration of holy Prophet Muhammad (p), Al-Imam Ali (p) and the whole Islamic ummah.

He said Al-Imam Al-Hussain (p) is the very base of Islamic history, he is pride of Islam and Muslims to this extent that he became the sign of freedom and justice. Then why the Kuwaiti government not gives official holiday on the Ashura Day in mourning for Hussein (p), respect of blood of martyrs and honour of his grandfather holy Prophet (p) and his mother Fatimah Az-Zahraa (p)? And why it does not implement what the national council decided?

Al-Mohri told that all kwaiti people should have known that the suggestion of Slih Ashur regarding Ashura Day holiday was sent by the council to financial and economical committee which had unanimously agreed upon it. Then the council chairman sent this resolution to the government but it is still pending like other resolutions.

This year, we join our voice to the members of national council who represent all stratums of society, and demand from the government to declare martyrdom day of Sibtor Rasul (p) as official holiday like Bahrain, Iraq and other Islamic countries, and should not fear anyone but trust in Allah.
