EU: Arab leaders fearing Iraq Shia government By: Farhan Zaidi LONDON, Britain: The European Union foreign affairs chief Javier Solana said Arab leaders were worried over formation of a Shia government in new Iraq. Talking to journalists in London, Solana said the Arab leaders including Egyptian President Hosni Mobarik, Jordanian King Abdullah II and Arab League Chief Amr Mousa during his meetings with them expressed their fear that elections in Iraq would lead to the creation of a Shia government there. This fear is strange enough as Shia make up 80 percent of population in Iraq. Solana paid his visit to Middle East in the 2nd week of this January. END |
