Kuwait clerics body: Neighboring states must accept Iraqis’ choice By: Sultan Ahmed KUWAIT CITY: Head of the Shia Clerics Society in Kuwait Sayyed Muhammad Baqer Al-Mohri has demanded increase in number of Shiias on political posts on basis of competence and not sectarian in Kuwait. Shiia make up 1/3 of the total population of Kuwait while the 50-member parliament has only five Shiia members. Speaking on Iraq elections that began in 14 foreign countries two days before the poll in Iraq itself, Al-Mohri said, “We look to the Iraqi polls as a democratic process to elect a legitimate government. It will not be a Shia government, but a national Iraqi government in which all stratums of Iraqi people, Sunni and Kurd brethren will also take part.” "Undoubtedly, a national Iraqi government will impact on neighboring countries... but there is no cause to be concerned and afraid of Shias rising to power. And the neighboring states must accept the choice of Iraqi nation either it is shia or sunni," he added. END |
