Yemen takes steps to prevent Idd Al-Ghadir celebrations By: Sultan Ahmed SANAA, Yemen: Yemeni newspaper Al-Ayam Al-Yemeniyah’ reported that the government has issued orders to prevent celebrations of Idd Al-Ghadir, or the Feast of Ghadir, throughout the country including Sa’ada city. According to the report orders have been issued to deal with an iron hand and cut salaries of all those who would celebrate the auspicious occasion, which marks the day when holy Prophet Muhammad b. Abdollah (s) placed the crown of Imamate, successor-ship and caliphate on the head of Amir Al-Mo’mineen Ali b. Abi Taulib (s) at the Pond of Ghadir, a place in Saudi Arabia, by declaring in front of Hajj pilgrims while raising his hand “Ali (s) is master of all those, of whom I am master… O Allah! Love those who love him and keep enmity for those who bear enmity for him and help those who help him… and turn the truth wherever he turns”. Shiia make up more than 1/3 of the total population of the country. Quoting security sources, Yemeni internet media further reported wide military movement in Sa’ada as part of preparations to prevent every display of celebrations in connection with the Idd Al-Ghadir on 18 Dhol-Hejja which falls this year on 28 Jan while in some other global parts on 29 Jan, depending on the sighting of moon. These sources confirmed that more than 500 soldiers landed in the city on Sunday and forced the residents that they would not celebrate the occasion. END |
