Iraqi refugees to sue against Jordan in world court By: Nabil Raza LONDON, Britain: The Society for Defense of Iraqi Refugees has announced to file a lawsuit to the international war crimes tribunal against Jordan for participating in the bloody suppression of the Shia and Kurdish people in southern and northern Iraq. An informed source close to the society told the Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency (MNA) on Saturday that the society in its lawsuit that will be submitted in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague has asked the Jordanian government to pay $20 billion as compensation to victims of the two incidents. According to MNA the accusations include the Jordanian government’s contribution in the massacre of 150,000 Shias in southern Iraq in 1991, the Jordanian generals’ direct involvement in the Anfal military operation that led to the killings of 250,000 Iraqi Kurds and stealing ten million tons of oil from Iraq during the 25-year rule of former dictator Saddam. The society demanded in the lawsuit appearance of Jordanian responsible elements before the world court to answer the charges. It has referred to the Hashemite Dynasty, former prime ministers Abdel Salaam Al-Majali, Zaid Ar-Rifai, Abdul-Karim Al-Kabariti, Ali Abur Ragheb and Mudar Badran, former parliament speaker Abdul Hadi Al-Majali, former commander of armed forces General Zaid ibn Sharif, former head of the General Intelligence Department Samih Batikhi, former foreign minister Marwan Muasher and former information minister Hani Al-Khasawneh as the main elements responsible for the massacre and oppression of the Iraqi nation. The indictment also includes hundreds of documents, and also accused the Jordanian kingdom for dispatching torture equipment to the Iraqi security organization and educating Iraqi torturers over the past 25 years particularly during the economic sanctions against Baghdad for its 1990invasion of Kuwait.
