Blair meets British Muslim leaders

By: Nabil Raza

LONDON, England: British Premier Tony Blair held a meeting on Tuesday with UK Muslim leaders to discuss ways of tackling homegrown extremism in the wake of the July 7 terrorist attacks in London.

The meeting comes as a new poll published by the Guardian newspaper revealed that two-thirds of Britons believed the London bombings were linked to Britain's role in the war in Iraq.

Muslim representatives have expressed shock that the four men suspected of carrying out the bombings that killed at least 56 people were all born in the UK.

Tuesday's meeting at Downing Street was attended by Muslim clerics, business leaders, all four Muslim members of Parliament as well as Conservative and Liberal Democrat opposition leaders Michael Howard and Charles Kennedy.
