Tataristan: Opening of mosque razed by king five centuries ago

KAZAN, Tataristan: The biggest mosque in Europe has opened in Kazan,
capital of the Republic of Tataristan, and the Muslims in Russia
celebrate this momentous occasion.
The mosque has been constructed on the ruins of a mosque that was
demolished by Russian emperor Ivan the Terrible in the mid 16th
century. The style and shape of the new mosque is also that of the
destructed mosque.
Guests from different countries attended the opening ceremony of the
mosque which has capacity of more than five thousand worshippers.
The reconstruction of the destructed mosque took ten years as
engineers faced much difficulty, for the genuine maps of the building
were washed out.
