Lawsuit against Saddam for killing 64 family members of Al-Hakim
By: Ismail Zabeeh
BAGHDAD, Iraq: Sayyed Abdul Aziz Al-Hakim, son of late Grand Marjay
of Shiia World Sayyed Mohsin At-Tabatabai Al-Hakim and chairman
Supreme council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq, has said he was going
to file a complaint against ousted tyrant Saddam for killing 64
members of his respected clerical family.
Al-Hakim said he hoped, not least for personal reasons, that Saddam
himself would soon be given a quick trial in Iraq followed by
execution.
"There is no doubt Saddam deserves more than just execution," he said.
"I am among those who are going to file a complaint for killing 64
members of my family.
"For these crimes alone ... he deserves 64 executions."
Al-Hakim who is one of Iraq's most powerful leaders ruled out any
dialogue with terrorists and said they "must be terminated".
"The terrorist groups have revealed their purpose, which is creating
sectarian strife, and stand in the way of the political process and
building the new Iraq," Hakim said.
His statement came after nearly three-dozen mourning devotees were
martyred on Wednesday and Thursday in eight powerful bomb attacks that
ripped through husseiniyah Al-bu Jomah, husseiniyah alhaj Abdor-Rasol
Ali and other venues in Al-Karadah and Ash-Shola districts in Baghdad.
The attacks were conducted while husseiniyaat and mosques were filled
with mourners attending majales Al-azaiyah marking the martyrdom
anniversary of Sayyedah Fatimah Az-Zahra (peace be upon her), daughter
of holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure progeny).
"These terrorists must be terminated."
Al-Hakim has urged all Iraqis particularly Shia majority not to be
provoked into civil war against their brethren and said those
opponents with political aims were welcome in negotiations.
But Hakim made clear he saw most violence now as the work of Saddam's
Baathist followers set on recovering power and groups like al Qaeda's
Iraqi wing, led by Jordanian Abu Musab Az-Zarqawi, and Ansar As-Sunna.
"There is no way to open a dialogue with these terrorists. They are
not a political movement and their differences with us are not
political," Hakim said, adding that he was happy to see an Iraqi
constitution, currently being drafted, that reflected present,
US-sponsored, interim arrangements.
