ISESCO flays plot to divide Shia-Sunni, Jordan apology demanded

By: Sultan Ahmed

RABAT/BAGHDAD: Director-General of the Rabat-based Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) has severely condemned conspiracy to divide Iraqis between Sunni and Shi'a, and separately big anti-Jordanian protests that began last Monday in Iraq continued.

ISESCO chief Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Othman Al-Tuweijry called on the people of Iraq to squarely confront those who seek to divide them between Sunni and Shi'a, with the sinister intention of perpetuating the cycle of chaos and destruction, and the prolongation of the foreign occupation.

He denounced the criminal terrorist misdeeds which occur in Iraq claiming the lives of many Iraqis and increasing the suffering of those left behind.

He said Islam forbids the killing of innocent people.

Thousands of angry demonstrators on Friday marched through Baghdad demanding an apology from Jordan for the alleged involvement of a Jordanian in Hilla suicide bombing that left at least 132 people martyred. They raised the Iraqi flag over Jordan's Embassy.
They burned Israeli and Jordanian flags and shouted slogans against Jordan's King Abdullah II, such as "Take your embassy away. We do not want to see you!" and "There's no God but God, Abdullah is the enemy of God!"

Iraqis have staged protests in recent days after the Iraqi government on Monday condemned Jordan media-reported celebrations allegedly held by the family of a Jordanian man suspected of carrying out a Feb. 28 terrorist attack in Hillah.

“The Jordanian king must apologize to the people of Hillah and the people of Iraq,” said a cleric Qasim Hussein at the protest. “Blood money must be paid to the victims of Hillah.”

The protesters later dispersed; no violence was reported.
