Tears, majalis as Bahrain observes Imam Hasan (p) martyrdom

By: Ali Al-Qadumi

MANAMA, Bahrain: Martyrdom Anniversary of Al-Imam Al-Hasan bin Ali Al-Mojtaba (peace be upon them) was marked in Bahrain on Safar 7 with due solemnity and reverence.

Marking the sorrowful occasion, big majalis and mawakeb al-azaiyah, or the mourning sittings and processions were held day and night.

Thousands of mourners, wearing black mourning dresses, attended these gatherings, recited elegies, performed chest and head beating, shed tears and thus extended their condolences to holy Prophet (peace be upon him & his pure progeny) and other A’immah Ahlul Beit (peace be upon them) on the martyrdom of the second infallible Imam from the progeny of Holy Prophet (peace be upon him & his pure progeny) Al-Imam Hasan Az-Zaky (peace be upon him).

According to some traditions Safar 7 marks Al-Imam Al-Hasan (peace be upon him)’s martyrdom anniversary while some other reports say he was martyred on Safar 28.

His holy corpse was pelted with arrows by Umayyads and ruler of the holy city of Medina to stop Ahlul Beit (peace be upon them) from burying him next to his grandfather holy Prophet (peace be upon him & his pure progeny). Thus he was laid to rest in the cemetery of Al-Baqee in holy Medina by the side of his mother Mistress of Women of World Sayyedah Fatimah Az-Zahra (peace be upon her).

His holy grave along with other A’immah from the progeny of holy Prophet (peace be upon him & his pure progeny) was bulldozed in 1926 by Aal-e-Saud, the then Saudi rulers, hurling a challenge to the whole humanity in general and Muslim world in particular.
