European Kurds avoid Nouroz celebrations honoring Hosayni Days

By: Anjum Kermani

ROME, Italy: Shia Kurds in Europe and Iraq have not celebrated Eid-e-Nouroz, or Nouroz Festival, because of its coincidence with the mourning period (two months and eight days) which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Hazret Imam Hosayn (A), grandson of holy Prophet Hazret Muhammad (S), in Karbala tragedy some 1,400 years ago.

According to Vekala-tol Akhbar Al-Iraqiyah (Iraq news agency) the Kurds continued preparations to commemorate Arbaeen Al-Hosayni, or the fortieth day after the martyrdom of Al-Imam Al-Hosayn (A), which falls on the end of next week.

The Kurds avoided these celebrations to show their Islamic identity and their care for Islamic occasions.

The European Kurds appreciated Kurds in Iraq for not celebrating the Nouroz Eid in respect of Hosayni days.

Meanwhile, also the Nouroz Festival was not celebrated in Pakistan because of mourning days that end on Rabi-ol Avval 8.
