Mush: Peace moves could stall without Kashmir solution

By: Salman Alvi

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan's President General Pervez Musharraf has said the peace process with India could be upset if no progress is made on the key issue of Kashmir.

Addressing a military parade in Islamabad marking National Day on March 23 at which Pakistan's armed forces showed off nuclear-capable missiles, jets and tanks, Musharraf said: “If progress is not made on the resolution of the real problems, the confidence-building measures will lose their impact.”

“We want peace and we want to resolve problems through negotiations but we will never accept any pressure,” AFP news agency quoted him as saying.

General Musharraf said Pakistan will continue its “moral, diplomatic and political” support for Muslim freedom fighters in Indian-held Kashmir. “We are totally with the Kashmiris in their struggle.”

“Our moral, diplomatic and political help will always continue in their struggle until they succeed in their great objective. Our sincere prayers are with them.”

The Afghan president Hamid Karzai was a guest of honor at the military parade.
