TNFJ Relief Committee laments delay in govt relief operation, mismanagement
By: Salman Alvi
RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: An important meeting
of TNFJ Relief Committee for Quake-hit was held here on Tuesday. Syed
Shujaat Ali Bokhari, Additional Secretary General of the Tehreek
presided over the meeting that reviewed relief efforts for the
affected of earthquake.
Syed Hassan Raza Bokhari, Convener of the Relief Committee told the
meeting that relief goods donated by TNFJ’s Public Affairs Department,
elite, Matmi and social organisations is being dispatched to the
affected areas. He made a fervent appeal to the people to deposit
their relief goods at nearby mosques and Imambargahs or directly in
the office of TNFJ Relief Committee.

Shujaat Bokhari, Additional Secretary General of the Tehreek, in his
address on the occasion said the mass destruction as a result of
earthquake is a great national tragedy and in this hour of need it is
obligatory for every Pakistani citizen to donate for his or her
brethren without any discrimination on the basis of Maktab and Maslak.
He said Quaid-i-Millat-i-Jafariya Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi
while terming the all quake-hit a part of his body has appealed not to
keep any stone unturned for the restoration of the affected and
sharing their grief. He said it is the time for a test and all
countrymen should take part in the relief work extensively.
He said the situation in the affected areas is tragic owing to
disturbed communication system while medical experts fear spread of
different diseases. Although this human tragedy came all of a sudden
and thousands of human lives perished within a few seconds but delay
in the relief operation and mismanagement is tragic and no government
organisation could go scot-free only by saying that what could they do
to stop mass destruction at such a large scale.
He said many high level government figures including President Pervez
Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have visited the affected
areas and instructions to carry out relief operation have been issued
to civil organisations and the Pakistan Army but national and foreign
media is quoting different affected people that relief teams did not
reach them as a result of which people are trapped in the debris,
particularly teachers and innocent students were kissing the death one
by one.
Shujaat Bokhari lamented that the debris of Margalla Tower in
Islamabad was still a particular target of the international western
media. General public has taken extensive part for restoration of the
quake-hit and displayed human friendly spirit whereas government
organisations still remained undecided that proof of which is that
they could neither identify many affected areas yet nor could gauge
the loss of life and kind.
He said international community could not have been told yet that what
type of help Pakistan requires because neither the government
organisations have any certified figures nor there are any sources or
arrangements for despatching relief teams to the affected areas. He
said no one should reap political benefits from this tragedy but the
government organisations should also accept their slackness in
fulfilling their duty and accelerate their efforts in dealing with the
great human tragedy so as to provide some relief to the affected.
The participants of the TNFJ Relief Committee meeting offered Fateha
for those who kissed martyrdom in this tragic disaster including
Coordination Secretary TNFJ Azad Kashmir Syed Zulfiqar Kazmi,
grandsons of TNFJ Supreme Council member Kh. Basharat Ali Jafri, Abrar
Hussain Bandey brother of TNFJ District Bagh leader Mushtaq Hussain
Bandey, and wife of MSO Nigran Council member Irfan Ali Jafri. They
prayed for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace, expressed
complete sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for the early
recovery of the injured and restoration of the affected.
