Zionists close Ibrahimi mosque to Muslims

By: Ahmed Hammadi

AL-KHALIL, West Bank: Israel closed off on Thursday the Ibrahimi mosque in downtown Al-Khalil, southern West Bank, to Muslim worshipers.

According to a spokesman for the Islamic endowment department in Al-Khalil the measure was apparently aimed at enabling Zionist settlers to celebrate a major holiday.

He said the closure is the second of its kind in a week.

Earlier this month, the army closed the Ibrahimi mosque to Muslims to enable a small settler community in Al-Khalil to celebrate the Jewish New Year.

The army partitioned the Islamic site giving much part of the ancient structure to extremist Zionists as a synagogue.

As many as 400 settlers, affiliated with the Kach terrorist movement and other extremist groups, are living in fortified enclaves in Al-Khalil among more than 170,000 Muslim inhabitants in the town.
