Kuwait Shia Scholars Council urges govts to get issuance of rift-creating fatawa stopped

By: Sultan Ahmed

KUWAIT CITY: Sayed Muhammad Baqer Al-Mohri, head of Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in Kuwait, has called on Muslim clerics to issue fatawa (verdicts) which term killing any Muslim in Iraq whether he is a sunni or a shia haram (illegal) and urged the governments to get issuance of such fatawa that create sectarianism stopped.

In a statement, Al-Mohri said religion of Islam considers that honour of a Muslim in the sight of Allah is supreme than the Holy Ka’abah, and he who utters La Ilaha Il-lallah Muhammadur Rasulullah, his blood, honour, wealth is respectable; and according to Islam shedding blood of any innocent, whether he a Muslim or non-Muslim, is prohibited.

But what we see this day in Iraq i.e. killing innocents in the name of jihad, forceful expulsion, and attacks on holy sites, all that is in contradiction to Islamic teachings.

Al-Mohri demanded from Muslim clerics in different Islamic countries to break their silence, issue bold verdicts terming killing of any Muslim illegal, and declare aloofness from those clerics who issue extremist fatawa to fan biases and create dissension among Muslim brethren.
