NZ ISCHRO terms shrines attack as an assault on revered Imams

By: International Shia Cultural and Human Rights Organization

AUCKLAND, New Zealand: The International Shia Cultural and Human Rights Organization (ISCHRO) from New Zealand condemned the bombing of sacred religious sites.

On 22nd of February 2006, extremists carried out bombings in the Shrine of Imam Ali Al-Hadi (AS) and Imam Hasan Al-Askari (AS) in Samarra.

Samarra is home to the historical Askariya Shrine where the 10th and 11th Imams have been buried. Imam Ali Al-Hadi (AS) and Imam Hasan Al-Askari (AS), both descendants of Prophet Muhammad (SW), were poisoned by the Abbasid government in the 9th Century.

The explosion caused the golden dome of the shrine to collapse. Shrines of the 12 Imams are highly respected and large numbers of devotees visit them on a daily basis. An attack on the shrines of such highly respected personalities is regarded as an assault on revered Imams and a disregard for religious beliefs.

ISCHRO presented its condolences to Muslims around the world for the destruction of sacred historical sites.
