HOLY KARBALA, Iraq: Spiritual Husseini mourning processions, every day in the morning, begin touching through the streets of the holy city of Karbala starting from headquarters of their organizing bodies that are spread across the holy city and regions surrounding the holy shrines of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p) and his brother Al-Abbas (p).

A spokesman for union of Husseini organizations and groups – a body to organize and arrange timings of processions - Al-Ostaz Ali Al-Jarahi said processions from Arab and Islamic countries like Bahrain, Pakistan and Iran will participate in commemoration of martyrdom of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p) in the holy city of Karbala this year.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of mourners, some on foot, are traveling to this holy city to commemorate Ashura - 10th day of Moharram.

In all cities and towns of the country, there is an environment of deep grief and mourning.

Prayer leaders and officials of processions speak on significance of sha’a’ir ad-diniyah (religious signs).

Prayer leader of al-Imam Al-Hasan Al-Askari (p) mosque, Sheikh Abbas Jfar said: Month of Moharram is distinguished from all other months because of heart-rending tragedy of Karbala in which Sibt-or Rasul Al-Hussein (p) was martyred. That is why, Muslims commemorate this tragedy by practicing special Sha’a’ir Husseiniyah – shedding blood, holding majalis and mwakeb etc - that were banned throughout past regime. Practicing these Sha’a’ir is nothing new, rather are practiced since the day first across Iraq and other global parts.

In another development, Interior Ministry said it has completed necessary protective measures for security of Husseini mourners in the holy city of Karbala.
