ISTANBUL, Turkey: Every conscious human being whether he belongs to any country, region or faith respects Hosayn ibne Ali (peace be upon him), grandson of holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny), for his invaluable sacrifice was to defend umanity and protect lofty human standards.

Like Hosayni commemoration continued in all countries, similarly Maraseem-e-Hosayni are in continuation in Turkey. Thousands of mourners of Imam Hosayn (peace be upon him) participate in these commemorative mourning rituals to pay homage to him and his 72 devoting-companions whose commemoration and name is alive even today after passage of 1,400 years.

On February 5, thousands of Turks, wearing black mourning dresses, held a mourning procession in an Istanbul square. They were beating their chests, reciting elegies and weeping bitterly in shows of grief over the unjust killing of Imam Hosayn (peace be upon him).

Chanting 'Jesus is ashamed of you', they also condemned Denmark, Norway, Germany, France, Jordan, New Zealand, Switzerland and Spain for publishing insulting caricatures of holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny).

Ashura falls on Thursday February 9 this year. On this day, Al-Wafa lil Iraq Committee has scheduled to hold a majlis al-Hosayni, which also includes a play on Karbala Tragedy, at Fatih Cad.IFA Spor Tessler; Yan; Ashura Meydan Halkal - K. Çekmece /İst.
