UAE announces Islamic year holiday for govt sector

ABU DHABI: All government departments will remain
closed on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 (Muharram 2, 1427 Hijri), on
account of new Islamic year, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of
holy Prophet (p)’s grandson Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p) some 1,400 years
back in the scorching desert of Karbala for elevation of Islam and
Shariah.
A circular released earlier which declared Tuesday, January 31, 2006,
as new Islamic year holiday, has been nullified by this latest
circular.
