Explosions make 6 holy shrines ruins in Iraq

By: Ismail Zabeeh

BAGHDAD, Iraq: After the deadly tragedy of destruction of holy shrines of Al-Imam Ali Al-Hadi (a) and Al-Imam Hasan Al-Askari (a) in holy Samarra, six other holy shrines have been badly damaged at the hands of terrorists in a series of blasts around the Baqouba area northeast of Iraqi capital city of Baghdad.

The shrines destructed include mausoleums of Abdullah bin Al-Imam Al-Hadi, Jaber bin Al-Imam Al-Hadi, Abo Al-Hadid, and Prophet Danyal (a).

“These are terrorist attacks meant to divide Iraq's Shiias and Sunni Arabs, but if God is willing, they will not succeed,” said Muhammad Hussein, 45, a businessman in Baqouba.

Two shrines near Baqouba became ruins after late Saturday’s explosion of bombs that were planted in the shrines.

Other shrines were bombed throughout the day east of Baqouba, the capital of Diyala province.
