By: Ismail Zabeeh/ Karim Tellawi

BAGHDAD/ DAMASCUS/ SIDON: Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Iraqi cities of Baghdad, Basra and Najaf, Lebanese cities of Beirut and Sidon, Egyptian city of Cairo and Syrian cities of Damascus and Aleppo on the last Friday of the fasting month of Ramadan to condemn Israel and demand that Jerusalem (Al-Qods) be handed over to Palestinian control, marking the “Day of Al-Qods”.

They showed their support for the Palestinians while chanting anti-Israeli and anti-American slogans and carrying banners saying "Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine! Resistance is our slogan," "Despite our own suffering, we have not forgotten the Palestinians and Jerusalem" and "We will go in our millions to Jerusalem as martyrs.”

Effigies of US President Bush and former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon were burned during the demonstrations.
