206-year-old Quran manuscript in good condition

By: Sultan Ahmed

DOHA: A 206-year-old manuscript of the holy Quran written by a noted Qatari scholar and calligrapher late Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid bin Juma bin Khamis bin Hilal Al Miraikhi was handed over by the Emiri Diwan to a member of the tribe Hamad bin Saqr Al Miraikhi.

The gesture came in the wake of the opening of a new mosque in Medinat Khalifa, named after the Qatari scholar.

The manuscript, written in 1221Hijri year, had been in the custody of an ordinary Qatari, who presented it to the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs three years ago. The ministry then handed over to the Emiri Diwan.

The manuscript was later sent to Juma Al Majid Center in Dubai, specializing in the study and preservation of old manuscripts. The Centre restored the manuscript and returned it to the Emiri Diwan.

The manuscript was in a good condition and was highly valuable.
