AMMAN, Jordan: To pay homage to supreme sacrifices of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)’s grandson Al-Imam Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) in the burning desert of Karbala some 1,400 years ago, devotees of Ahlul Bait (peace be upon them) residing in Jordan observed aza Al-Imam Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) at the site of Motah Martyrs.

Jordanian Al-Ghad newspaper reported that these Husseini mourning rites were held after maghrebain (evening) prayers in mazar janubi region attended by over 5,000 mourners.

Battle of Motah was fought in 8 hijri. Among the martyrs in the battle were Ja’far Tayyar (brother of Al-Imam Ali, peace be upon him), Zaid bin Hartha and Abdullah bin Rawaha (one of the poets of the age of Prophet, peace be upon him and his pure progeny).

In Jordan, the government does not allow to build any husseiniyah, therefore, Ashura rites are observed by the devotees inside the zarih of Motah Martyrs.

Meanwhile, quoted by Ebaa News and Nahrain News, Iraqis living in Jordan have said the authorities barred them from holding Ashura rites and Husseini majlis at the shrine of Ja’far At-Tayyar. They said that the holy mausoleum was heavily surrounded by security officials from the Moharram 1. They added the workers at the shrine had told the Iraqi pilgrims that any attempt to hold majlis al-aza al-Husseini, whether it is recitation of sufferings of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) or elegies, will result in arrest or they will be expelled from the country.
