Major renovation starts at Makkah Grand Mosque

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia: The interior of the Grand Mosque in
the holy city of Makkah is undergoing extensive expansion and
renovation.
This includes building 14-metre-wide stairs between Al Mas’a and the
Al Qararah escalators to facilitate worshippers’ movement, according
to an official involved in the work.
Abdul Mohsen bin Abdul Rahman bin Humaid, director-general of the
Department of Projects and Studies at the General Presidency for the
Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, said that there are a number of other
projects that are to be implemented by the Presidency in the future.
These include a project for air-conditioning, the expansion of the
Mas’a area, and the construction of a building for training and
managerial development.
