KABUL, Afghanistan: Marasem-e-azadari were continued in Afghanistan
marking the matchless sacrifices of Holy Prophet (s.w.)’s grandson
Hazret-e-Imam Hussain (a.s.).

Majales-e-aza, that began on the eve of Muharram 1, are held on
daily basis at mosques and husseiniyaat in all cities and towns of the
country including capital Kabul, Herat, Mazar Sharif and Kandahar
attended by flocks of husseini mourners.

On Friday, Jan. 26, a massive Muharram procession was taken out in
Kabul. Thousands participated, recited marasi and nohay, and pounded
their chests and heads over the great sufferings of Hazret-e-Imam
Hussein bin Ali (a.s.) chanting “Ya Hussein Ya Hussein”.

Mourners paid homage to the Chief of Martyrs Hazret-e-Imam Hussein
(a.s.), who irrigated and nourished the tree of Islam with his holy
blood, by performing zanjeer-zeni (beating backs and chests with sharp
knives attached to chains).
