MORADABAD (UTTAR PRADESH), India: Muslims in Moradabad paid homage to Mazloom-e-Karbala by performing zajeer-zani on streets in huge processions. People irrespective of caste, creed or religion congregated and performed zajeer-zani.

Young, old and even children here hit themselves with knives attached to metal chains. They bled profusely, and the streets they passed got splattered with blood.

"I have been doing this for 30-35 years now. This is our way of worshipping Imam Hussein. No, it does not pain. These wounds need no medicine either. This is the way to express to the great Imam how badly we rue the opportunity to get martyred alongside him in Karbala," said Farhat, one of the devotees.
