'Palestine, the Kingdom of Judah' … Latest ME peace plan

By: Ahmed Hammadi

HELD JERUSALEM: Bin those tortuous peace plans and reach for your Bible: a two-state solution with an independent Palestine run by a Jewish king is one American tourist's vision of peace in the Middle East.

Israel to mourn his wife, was so moved by the conflict that he penned a peace plan in a luxury hotel room and invested 120,000 dollars (88,000 euros) to flog his vision of "Palestine, the Kingdom of Judah."

It took the data communications team leader from New Orleans three days to write his blueprint before trying to sell his ideas to Palestinian cabinet members in Ramallah, Israeli politicians and Jewish settlers in Hebron.

"What I'm fighting for is no fortified borders. No walls. No territorial grabs. Two states: One Palestine, the Kingdom of Judah, just like Bosnia Herzegovina," says Barry, his full beard partly obscuring a crisp white suit.

He has spent the 120,000 dollars on gifts, arrangements, paying people to introduce him to movers and shakers, printing his plan in the English-language Palestine Times newspaper and running off 200,000 bumper stickers and posters.

"Palestinians get their state, they get recognition, they get control and they get the occupation ended ... Swallowing a Jewish king is not such a hard thing if you get what you want," he added.

A Jewish monarch and the extra name "Kingdom of Judah" will, Barry believes, appease settlers, guarantee their security, stave off civil strife if they were forced out and allow them to live in a kingdom dating back to Biblical times.

In the meantime, he suggests that Jordan's King Abdullah II might be trusted enough to step into the breach until another "nice Arab" or Jewish replacement can be conjured up.

Hebron turned into ‘ghost town’

WEST BANK: The Israeli government is forcing Palestinians from their homes and businesses in the West Bank city of Hebron, turning it into a "ghost town".
