Kuwaiti, Saudi Shias demand MBC to axe 'derogatory' serial

KUWAIT CITY/Riyadh: The Prime Minister of Kuwait has vowed to try to stop the
broadcast of a TV serial deemed derogatory to Shia Muslims.
The assurance came during a meeting between Sheikh Nasser Mohammad al-Ahmad
al-Sabah and some members of parliament who warned that the serial, scheduled
to be broadcast in the forthcoming fasting month, incites sectarianism.

Talking to AFP, leading Shia MP Adnan Abdulsamad, who attended the meeting,
said: "The prime minister assured us that the issue will be resolved. Our
understanding is that the government will use its good offices to stop the
serial."
The serial entitled "Sins Have A Price" is due to air on the Dubai-based
Saudi-owned Arab MBC station during Ramadan.
Meanwhile, a number of Saudi Shia clerics and intellectuals have sent a
letter to MBC channel’s chief Walid Ibrahim demanding him to stop the
derogatory program broadcasting.
