IECOC held annual Interfaith-Civic Ramadan Iftar

LOS ANGELES, United States: The 2nd Annual Interfaith-Civic Ramadan Iftar was arranged by Islamic Educational Center of Orange County (IECOC). Religious and civic leaders from the Los Angeles and Orange County communities joined together with Muslims in the Ramadan iftar (the breaking of the fast meal).

Respected guest, Lt. Clay Epperson from the Costa Mesa Police Department had fasted for the day in honor of recognizing the importance of Ramadan and to have a better understanding of what Muslims experience during the fast.

Each invited religious dignitary spoke about the importance of the interfaith community in working together for mutual cooperation, respect, and understanding.

IECOC was honored to have the following leaders share with it the significance of the Holy Month:
- Sheikh Sadullah Khan, Religious Director at the Islamic Center of Irvine
- Chief Christopher Shawkey and wife, Mrs. Pamela Shawkey, Costa Mesa Police
- Lt. Clay Epperson, Costa Mesa Police Department
- Prof. Hamid Mavani, Professor of Islamic Studies, Claremont University
- Sherrel Johnson, Assistant to Director & Community Relations Manager for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)

- Father Alexei Smith, Director of Ecumenical & Inter-religious Affairs, Archdiocese of Los Angeles

Anti-terrorism protest held in front of Saudi embassy in US
