AL-QATIF, Saudi Arabia: Grand Majales Al-Azaiyah, or the mourning sittings, marked the beginning of the month of Muharram in oil-rich Mo’minin-dominated eastern region of Saudi Arabia.

The Majales, started on the eve of Muharram, will remain in continuation till 8th of Raby Al-Oola, the 3rd Islamic month, at mosques, husseiniyaat and ma’atm.

During majales, speakers throw light on the great sacrifices of Al-Imam Al-Hussein b. Ali b. Abi Talib (p), philosophy of tragedy of Karbala and Imam (p)’s Qayam. Rich homage is paid to Sibt Ar-Rasul Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p) and his 72 near and dear ones.
