Al-aza al-Husseini in Medinah – the city of Prophet

HOLY CITY OF MEDINAH, Saudi Arabia: Thousands of Mo’minin in the holy city of Medinah marked on Friday and Saturday Ashura, the anniversary of martyrdom of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (AS).

Marking the occasion, religious lectures and al-aza al-Husseini (Husseini mourning) were held at majales at husseiniyaat, ma’atam and mosques.

Black flags and standards were raised high at more than 20 husseiniyaat situated in al-awali sector in the heart of Medinah.

Soltan al-Aamer and Sheikh Kadim addressed daily Husseini majales at majles Sheikh Muhammad Ali Al-Omri, the oldest shia center in Medinah while Sheikh Muhammad Hussein Al-Mobarek recited majales at majles al-boqa’ah – one of the most famous Husseini majales in Medinah.

Sheikh Abdulmatlub Abdulmon’am Al-Hajoj addressed majles at majles of Sheikh Taher Al-Hajoj in Al-Qadmah sector. Majleso Aal-i-Hasoon also marked Ashura days by holding Husseini gatherings addressed by Sheikh Maher Al-Jawi’adi.

An estimated 40,000 Shias live in the holy city of Medinah, most of them in Al-Awali sector which is near to the holy shrine of Prophet (S) and Baqee cemetery.

Besides local shias, mo’minin from Taef, Rabigh, Jeddah and Yanba’a also participated.
