Women entitled to due rights under Islamic charter, Syria Seminar

DAMASCUS, Syria: A Seminar on Consolidation of Family in Islamic Law wrapped up its two-day work in Syrian last week.

Addressing at the seminar, Secretary General of the World Assembly of Proximity among Islamic Schools of Thought (WAPIST) Ayatullah Mohammad-Ali Taskhiri said Islam accords an influential role to women in process of development.

“Islam considers men and women as equal with common duties toward children and maintaining family life”… “Women are entitled to their due rights in light of the Islamic human rights charter.”

Essential rights and civil liberties are part of rights envisaged in Islam for women, he added.

The Seminar studied ways to fill the current vacuum caused by ignoring the family values enshrined by Islam.

Over 50 distinguished experts and academic elite from universities of Syria, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Qatar were present at the meeting.
