Al-Marje Al-Hakim calls upon govt to protect citizens, holy sites

HOLY NAJAF, Iraq: Ayatullah Sayed Muhammad Said Al-Hakim, one of
the four Maraje of Najaf, has condemned terror blast in the holy city
of Karbala which targeted pilgrims of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (AS).
At least 45 pilgrims of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (AS) were martyred and over
70 others injured when a female suicide bomber on Monday attacked them
near Al-Mokhayyam Al-Husseini on Habib bin Mazaher Al-Assadi
thoroughfare in holy Karbala at the time of (maghrib) evening prayer.
Al-Mokhayyam Al-Husseini, situated at a distance of about half a mile
from the Imam Hussein shrine, is the place where Husseini tents were
erected as Imam Al-Hussein came to Karbala on Moharram 3 in 61 AH.
These tents were set on fire on Ashura after martyrdom of Imam
Al-Hussein (AS) and his 72 companions at the hands of Yazidi forces.
The Ayatullah demanded from the government to take immediate measures
for protection of citizens and holy sites.
