Shiites get more than their right, claims Saudi religious authority

HOLY CITY OF MAKKAH, Saudi Arabia: Imam at the Grand Mosque in the holy city of Makkah Sheik Adil Al-Kalbani claimed that Shiite citizens of Saudi Arabia have taken more than their right.

His statement to BBC Television that on aired on Monday evening came in such a time when Shiite citizens voice discrimination and bias against them in every institution of the kingdom as well as the latest annual report by the independent U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom said that despite some limited reforms, the government continues to interfere with private religious practice, and arrested, detained and jailed Shia Muslim dissidents and Ismaili Muslims.

Al-Kalbani, son of a poor immigrant from the Persian Gulf, is the first prayer leader at Grand Mosque in Holy Makkah who belongs to African origin.

Leading prayers at the Grand Mosque is usually reserved for pure-blooded Arabs from the Saudi heartland.

Amnesty calls on Saudi to ensure held Juveniles protection from torture

NEW YORK, United States: Amnesty International said that at least 10 Shia men from the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, including seven juveniles, are being held incommunicado and are at risk of torture or other ill-treatment.
