Coin on Imam Ar-Reza (a.s.) life put on show

By: Sheikh M Khurasani

TEHRAN, Iran: The museum at Iran's Bank Sepah has exhibited a replica coin marking Hazret Imam Ali Ar-Reza (a.s.)'s term as the Crown Prince under Abassid caliph Ma'moon ur-Rashid in ancient Tous city, according to a spokesperson for the museum Mohsen Daraie.

“The coin has the name of the eighth Imam, Imam Reza (a.s.), etched on it and dates back to the time the revered Imam was accompanying Ma'moon at Tous as his successor,” Daraie said.

A stamp bearing the image of the coin has also been published in this regard, he added.

The original coin marking Imam Reza's presence in Khorasan as designated heir to Ma'moon ur-Rashid's throne is currently being held at Bank Sepah's museum.

Ma'moon, fearing Imam Reza's increasing popularity, had the eighth Imam from the holy progeny of Prophet Hazret Muhammad (s.v.) poisoned in 818 AD.

A major shrine, and eventually the holy city of Mash’had, grew up around Imam Reza's mausoleum.
