Arbitrary detentions against Shias continue in Al-Hasa

AL-HASA, Saudi Arabia: Saudi authorities continued their arrest compaign against Shiite Muslims in Al-Hasa, oil-rich Mo’minin-dominated East of the kingdom, as they detained two young Shias in the end of last week for taking part in religious activities during Ashura on last January.

Rasid quoted sources saying that Saudi Intelligence Department called Alsayed Bassam Al-Ali (19 years), and Alsayed Nasser Al-Ali (30 years) and upon their presence before the department were immediately put in prison.

They were accused of putting Ashura banners and taking part in grieving march during Ashura day, tenth day of the first month in Islamic calendar.

Detainees were sentenced a period of one week based on orders from Al-Hasa governor Bader Bin Jalawi.

Al-Hasa is facing sectarian harassment and arbitrary detentions against Shia citizens for the past five years where tens of mosques, worship houses and religious schools were closed amid a silent official media human rights committees.
