KUFA, Iraq: It was Masjid-e-Kufa when in the 40 Hijri, 19 Ramadan dawn an evil man Ibne Moljem struck a poison-dipped sword on the neck of Ameer-ul Mo’minin Al-Imam Ali (AS) while he was in prostration of the dawn (fajr) prayer.

Imam Ali (AS) at that time said ‘fuztu wa Rabbil Ka’abah’ [By God I have succeeded] while the angel Gabriel cried announcing his martyrdom ‘tahaddamat wallahi arkaanal hoda’ [By God the pillars of guidance have been collapsed].

Every year, a grand commemoration of the martyrdom anniversary of Al-Imam Ali (AS) is held at Kufa mosque attended byflocks of mourners.
