Launch of Ayat Musa Sadr’s Truth and Accountability Campaign

Twenty six years ago, Imam Musa Sadr and his two companions, journalist Abbas Badreddin and Sheikh Muhammad Yaqub disappeared on an official visit in Libya. The crime has remained unpunished.

On August 2, 2004, the Prosecutor-General of Lebanon, responding to new evidence presented by their families, requested from the investigative judge to revive the investigation and to issue warrants and establish rogatory commissions to bring before justice Muammar Qaddafi and seventeen others accused for the crime.

To support this historic ruling, and in light of continued lies and deceit by the Libyan authorities, the Imam Musa Sadr’s Truth and Accountability Campaign is being launched simultaneously in Australia, Lebanon, the United States of America and Iran.

The Campaign seeks all legal and diplomatic avenues to bring about the return of Imam Musa Sadr and his companions and to establish the full criminal accountability of Muammar Qaddafi and those responsible for their disappearance.

This is to draw your attention towards latest visa restrictions for pilgrimage to Imam Hashtum Ali bin Musa Ar-Reza a.s.

The embassies of Iran are demanding 'blood test' reports from designated Laboratories for pilgrims intending to go for 'ziarat' of Imam Reza a.s.

The Pilgrims have to spent time and money to get them test reports for obtaining visas. The ill pilgrims are denied visas for ziarat, whereas the zarih of Imam Raza a.s. is affiliated with 'sehne shifa' and office of shifah (healing)....

You are requested to direct all embassies of Iran to stop asking this test reports from pilgrims intending to visit Imam Raza a.s.

Otherwise, it can be assumed that 'sehne shifa' and office of shifah at Imam Raza a.s. haram are only for 'Iranian pilgrims'…!!

First-ever unique encyclopedia of Quran published

The First-ever unique Encyclopedia of the Holy Qur'an entitled "A Dictionary of Quranic Lexical Items and its Rhetorical Secret" in Arabic compiled in 25 volumes have been accomplished by the Islamic Research Foundation affiliated to Astan Quds Razavi (the holy shrine of Imam Reza (A.S.) located in the holy city of Mashhad, Iran).

This most comprehensive work on the Holy Qur'an have been accomplished after twenty years of incessant efforts of a group of distinguished scholars in Qur'anic sciences under the supervision of Emeritus Professor Ayatullah Muhammad Vaez Zadeh Khurasani, who is the leading professor of the Islamic seminary (Hawzah) and University in Iran. This encyclopedic endeavour is also considered as reverend authors' magnum opus.

The origin of every word mentioned in the Holy Qur'an comprises the subject entries of this great work which are arranged in alphabetical order. The origin of the every Quranic lexical item have been researched with different aspects of the Holy Qur'an and analyzed by discussing the views of all the prominent philologists and exegetists of Islam from the beginning of the Islam till the present era.

The commentary, eloquence and the circumstances of the revelation of every Quranic lexical item have also been discussed in detail. In the beginning of the every entry the derivations from the origin of every word are reviewed comprehensively.

so far 8 volumes of this great work have been published comprising 7197 pages in Royal octavo size with hardback cover.

LONDON: The winners of the Islamic Human Rights Commission’s annual ‘Islamophobia Awards’ were announced on 26th June 2004 ahead of the ceremony to be held in Maida Vale, London Saturday evening.

This year a special one-off award for outstanding achievement in promoting Islamophobia was given to the Metropolitan Police Service for, amongst other things, Muslim profiling suspects, disproportionately targeting Muslims for stops and searches under terrorism laws and equating Muslim festivals with increased threats of terrorism.

IHRC Chairman Massoud Shadjareh said: “It is with great sadness that we reveal this year’s winners. Sadly the competition was extremely tough and we see no signs of this abating in the year to come.

“On a serious note, the harm done by Islamophobia needs to be evaluated in the light of recent history. Before every genocide there has been demonisation, be it the Balkans, Rwanda or Nazi led Europe. We need to break this current cycle before it is too late.”

The ‘Islamophobia Awards’ is IHRC’s annual comedy event aimed at highlighting prevailing prejudices and subverting them using humour.

British Muslims called to turnout for elections

LONDON: The Local and European elections of 2004 bring forth many challenges for the British society and in particular the Muslim Community in Britain. With the ongoing debate over asylum, war on terrorism and local taxes; it is essential that the voice of the honest and moral people of our society is heard.

According to the opinion of the majority of our Righteous Jurists; voting for council or parliament elections is permissible, except in those cases whereby there is direct opposition towards Islam and the religious duties.

From the research into the election process taking place on 10th June, the AhlulBayt Islamic Mission feels obliged to publicly announce an increasing danger upon Muslims in Britain from political parties with extreme and negative views against Islam and the Muslims.

In order to safeguard the Muslim Community in Britain, the AhlulBayt Islamic Mission calls upon all Muslims in Britain to pay attention to this matter and advises Muslims to turnout for the elections on the 10th June in an effort to oppose those parties which pose a threat to the welfare of the Muslim community. It is essential to maintain the respect and dignity of our community against the malice groups.

We would like to take this opportunity to make our demands known to any prospective candidate that will take a position of authority:

More support for Muslim religious schools.

More Islamic education in the National Curriculum.

Provide special needs for Muslim patients under the NHS, like segregated wards for female patients and the right to see a female doctor.

Prayer facilities in public places like offices, schools and hospitals.

A clear differentiation between organizations that are Islamic and those who falsely support terrorism under the pretext of religion.

A clear timeline for the end of occupation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.

Refrain from interference in the internal affairs of foreign countries and a stop in the support of tyrant regimes.

The AhlulBayt Islamic Mission advises the believers to research into the candidates of the elections and if they are to choose a nominee, it should be he or she who is known for being a humane, ethical and moral individual who does not have a history against Islam or the Muslim Community.

Pak PM aunt to be buried in Mash’had

KARACHI, Pakistan: Widow of Pakistan movement’s renowned leader Mir Jafar Khan Jamali, mother of former Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Taj Jamali and paternal aunt of Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali, Begum Bano Mochal has expired on Friday night at the age of 90.

Her funeral prayer was offered at Defense Imambargah Yasreb, Karachi and she will be buried in the holy city of Mash’had, Iran.

London Muslims to pray for peace

London Muslims have been called to pray for peace in the city this Friday. Following the recent tragedy in Madrid fears have been growing over a similar fate befalling the capital city.

In a letter addressed to all of London's major mosques and community

centres, Kumar Murshid, the Chairman of the London Muslim Coalition (LMC),said: "We urge all Imams and community leaders to include special prayers for peace and tranquillity in our great city and throughout the world. At a time of such confusion, pain and grief we as Muslims must stand up to condemn all acts of terrorism that threaten the lives of innocent people.

"Peace and security are the essence of Islam and there is no greater struggle than ensuring that harmony exists in society.

"In Islam, prayers are the ultimate weapon available to the masses in efforts to change the evil perpetuated by a few men and in the spread of goodwill and God's Grace among mankind."

Biggest mammal discovered in Pakistan

SAN FRANCISCO: Pakistan has gained another important position in the history of earth as scientists have discovered and unearth biggest mammal on earth from Pakistan at Balochistan province. The discovery is result of painstaking work of French team working here for the last two years. I presentation show was done in Islamabad regarding this mammal and French Embassy a special reception in this regarding on Thursday.

Here is the abstract of speech of Charge de affairs of French Embassy on this occasion.

"I am very happy, in my capacity of Chargee d'affaires of the French Embassy to host this reception in honour of Professor Jean-Loup Welcomme who is working particularly in collaboration with the Pakistan Museum of Natural History, the Pakistan Science Foundation.

It is in 2000 that the first scientific contacts with the Pakistani counterparts were established, concluded 2 years later by an agreement that still hold today, formalizing the relations between the Pakistan Museum of Natural History and the Laboratory of Palaeontology of the University of Montpellier III.

The work accomplished by Professor Welcomme, his colleagues, and the Pakistanis scientists is simply exceptional. M. Welcomme started his research in Balochistan in 1994. He was the first foreign scientist to conduct research in the Bugti territory since 1910. He discovered in 1999, in the Bugti hills, of the biggest mammals which ever lived on earth, the Balouchitere. May I recall that it is a revolution in the knowledge regarding the pre-history of the region. Recently, a book telling the adventure of the Mission francaise de Palaeontology, in the Bugti Hills has been published. Let me pay also a tribute to the Bugti leaders who have facilitated the works for the benefit of Human Knowledge.

The discovery of the Balouchitere has generated new projects yet to be implemented. We hope, first of all that both the Museums of Natural History in Islamabad and in Paris, will be we to realize a casting of the skeleton which would be placed in the 'Galerie de 1'evolution' in Paris.

Pakistan has a lot to teach to the world about its own history. We, French, do hope that we will be part of this adventure. Let us think that this evening is the beginning of a new success for the French Pakistani cooperation and that new projects will emerge in the stray future that will lead each of us to question repeatedly; what we think we know about this planet."

Bajwah takes oath as MSO president

ISLAMABAD: Syed Bu Ali Mehdi, Chairman Guardian Council Mukhtar Students Organization Pakistan (MSO), has urged young generation to practically follow the principles of Mashaheer-e-Islam promoting the spirit of patriotism and giving their full attention to seek knowledge in order to make Pakistan a welfare Islamic State.

He was addressing the oath taking ceremony of new central president of the organization Haider Abbas Bajwah. He said MSO is engaged in practical struggle for the achievements of its organizational targets and working to bring awareness among students about the teachings of Muhammad (saw)-o-Aal-e-Muhammad (as) and for the protection of religious and moral values.

Bu Ali Mehdi condemned that interest-loving politicians and religious extremists that came in to being through dictatorship used the young generation for their heinous purposes causing not only national loss but also social and moral fall of most of youngsters.

The MSO chairman said fortunately MSO is blessed by the pious and prudent leadership of Quaid-e-Millat-e-Jafariya Agha Moosavi who always adopted exemplary and appreciating policy for the protection of holy mission, faith, nation and country. MSO is promoting his message of peace and brotherhood.

Scholarships for Islamic Jerusalem Studies 2004-2005

The Islamic Research Academy (ISRA) is pleased to announce the continuation of this prestigious scholarship scheme for Islamic Jerusalem Studies.

There are numerous scholarships for students wishing to undertake full-time taught M.Litt in Islamic Jerusalem Studies at Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies, Dundee (United Kingdom) beginning from September 2004. The scholarship is only for one year from 15 September 2004 until 14 September 2005.

These prestigious scholarship schemes are serious efforts on the part of ISRA to prepare a team of scholars in this novel field, and a great human investment to prepare an academic team of young scholars as specialists in Islamic Jerusalem Studies.

The scholarship will cover the full tuition fee and will also include a fixed monthly sum to cover living expenses. Applicants for the scholarships will normally be required to hold at least a second upper Honours degree in an appropriate discipline and the scholarships would particularly suit graduates who can show potentials to excel.

Criteria: candidates will normally be required to hold at least a second upper Honours degree in an appropriate discipline.

English language tests, at least 6.5 in IELTS or 570 TOEFL or any equivalent.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate evidence of interest in the field of Islamic Jerusalem Studies. This can be shown by submitting three copies of any relevant academic works including published or unpublished papers, books, manuscripts, monographs, etc.

Applicants should be no more than 30 years old (i.e.: born after the year 1974)

Applications can be made by submitting (non returnable):

A letter to the Secretary-General of ISRA explaining why the candidate should receive the scholarship.

A brief proposal for a research project (500 words).

The names, addresses, telephone number and e-mail address of two referees.

Three copies of the candidate's Curriculum Vitae (CV).

A copy of the candidate's birth certificate.

Deadline for application is 31 May 2004.

Write to French President on violation of Muslim women rights

The French president's call for legislation to ban the wearing of religious symbols in state schools is seen as targeting Muslim headscarf

What are we going to do about this?

‘Dear President Jacques Chirac,

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the proposed banning of Islamic headscarves in French State schools. An action such as this will have a huge detrimental effect on Muslim schoolgirls, and the French society at a whole.

I fully understand France is a secular state where religion and politics are divided. However wearing the headscarf does not conflict with the secularism. A Muslim schoolgirl wearing the headscarf, or a Jewish boy wearing the Jewish skullcaps are not propagating or preaching their religious faiths but they are simply following them.

With over five million Muslims and a large Jewish community, this type of law, which is being suggested, would unfairly alienate large groups of French society. In many cases it will prevent schoolchildren from gaining an education, as parents may prohibit their children from attending school without wearing the religion attire.

Furthermore I regret to say an action such as this by the French government would only increase Islamic fundamentalism. Radical terrorist groups would use this law to convince imperishable Muslim youths that the western world does view Islam as an enemy.

I strongly urge you to not pass such a discriminatory law that has no benefits to France or to Europe. We also wonder if France and other countries who don't give freedom to Muslim women to cover, would consider passing a law banning all photographs and paintings in Christian institutions depicting the Mother Mary with a headscarf.’
